In April 1981, Rei Kawakubo presented a collection in Paris that the French press called 'Hiroshima chic.' Forty-five years later, Comme des Garcons is the most collected avant-garde label in the world. The 1997 'Body Meets Dress, Dress Meets Body' collection remains the most referenced avant-garde fashion collection of the 20th century. The most sought-after period is 1981-1991. The current sweet spot is 1990-1997 — collections like 'Unfinished' (1992) that trade at accessible prices (300-800 EUR). The most undervalued: non-black CdG pieces, particularly the 1993 Synergy collection.
